The Invincible Warrior Goddess - Destroyer of Evil
Goddess Durga is the warrior form of Goddess Parvati. She was created by the combined energies of all gods to defeat the buffalo demon Mahishasura. Durga is depicted riding a lion or tiger, wielding multiple weapons in her many arms. She represents the power of the divine feminine (Shakti) and is the destroyer of evil.
Her name "Durga" means "invincible" or "one who eliminates suffering." She is also known as Mahishasuramardini (slayer of Mahishasura) and is worshipped as the supreme mother goddess in Shaktism.
Durga is worshipped in nine forms during Navratri:
