The Sun God - Source of Light, Life, and Energy
Lord Surya is the Hindu sun god, the visible form of the divine. He is the chief of the Navagrahas (nine planets) and represents the soul, vitality, and consciousness. Surya is described in ancient texts as a radiant deity riding a chariot drawn by seven horses, representing the seven colors of light and seven days of the week.
He is also known as Savitr, Bhaskara, Ravi, Aditya, and Ark. Surya is the son of sage Kashyapa and Aditi, and the father of Yama (god of death), Yami, and Karna (from Mahabharata).
Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) is a sequence of 12 yoga poses performed facing the rising sun. It is both a physical exercise and a spiritual practice, honoring the sun god. Each of the 12 poses has a specific mantra associated with it.
